Current Projects
Tayside Diesel Engineering Ltd has taken on a variety of diverse projects in our 30 plus years in the engineering industry. We take on projects across the offshore, marine & industrial sectors and are equipped to deal with a variety of diesel engines. The following are some of our Current Projects.
2025
Our team recently attended the Seacor Nile in Aberdeen to carry out a 13,500-hour service on an MTU 12V4000M33S engine.
The work was completed at short notice to ensure the vessel is ready to head out on a new contract in Brazil
A big thanks to our skilled engineers for their commitment and expertise in delivering high-quality service under tight deadlines.
We’re proud to support our clients by delivering reliable service, quick response times, and trusted expertise — wherever and whenever they need us.

2024
Tayside Diesel Engineering were approached by a customer to see if we could supply replacement header tanks as the current ones in use were in very poor condition, as seen below:

Very little information was given on these tanks, but we managed to source and manufacture bespoke tanks for both emergency generators on the FPF1 which are now on the way offshore to replace the old units.

Jonathan Leslie and Gary Scott were mobilised to the North Alwyn Platform to carry out watch keeping duties on the 2 x MTU 20V4000P83 engines, as well as maintain the diesel centrifuge systems.
The engineers were split onto dayshift & nightshift to ensure that there was 24hr coverage during the duration of the shutdown as both generators are required to supply the electrical power generation. During this period, they maintained the engine and diesel centrifuges to ensure there were no power interruptions.
See below feedback that we received from the customer.
“Vendors were very helpful and carried out ongoing service and repairs to keep the power generation sets running, this was due to the fact they were very experienced diesel field service engineers. Both Jonathan and Gary had an excellent attitude and great work ethic.”
After we received a call on a Thursday evening from Ithaca/Alatas with regards to an issue Mercedes OM444LA engine overheating in one of the Alba North Platform cranes.
We offered advice and recommended checks that could be carried out but as it was essential that the crane remained operational, and the customer requested that we mobilised the next morning.
Upon contacting our engineer Darren Smith and describing the issues, he was only too happy to mobilise the next morning to investigate the issues. Once Darren was onboard and liaised with the platform staff, he carried out an initial inspection and worked with the electrical technician to fault find and repair the starting and charging issues as well as recommending further improvements that could be made in the future to reduce unplanned down time of the crane.
The engine was found to be overheating and after carrying out checks a broken wire was found, however the fault remained and after checking the engine and wiring diagrams Darren noticed that the oil and coolant temperature were the wrong way round and giving a false reading.
Various test runs were carried out with both crane operators to ensure that was satisfactory.
See below feedback that we received from the platform about Darren.
“Darren Smith mobilised to the Alba Northern platform at extremely short notice, on completion of his induction I thanked him for his behaviours and attitude, his response was humble and appreciative of the current issues we were encountering with our East crane.
Darren’s feedback was one of professionalism and dedication which was highly impressive.
Darren continued to show excellent behaviours and professional attitude during his visit, worked very well with the offshore team, giving valued advice and knowledge throughout. He was part of the team which resolved a number of issues in addition to providing some improvement opportunities moving forwards.
Darren is obviously a credit to your company and a skilled technician.”
We have been hard at work with the replacement of 2 off MTU 10V 2000 M72 on the Herston Lass as well as the overhaul of 2 off ZF 3050 gearboxes and the job was completed successfully on time.

We were approched by Guthrie Catsle https://guthriecastle.co.uk/ to provide a solution to their electrcial power issues.
It was found that there existing generator set was not meeting the increased demand required by the castle and estate.
After our intial discussions we quoted and supplied a Cummins 4BTA3.9 powered 55KVA - 3 phase generator set complete with heavy duty waterproof enclosed 70DB at 7 meter distance.
